Hey everyone! I’m new to playing as a pure mage in the OG and have been focusing on shock damage for my spells. I’ve noticed that shock seems really effective since few enemies resist it, apart from zombies and storm atronachs, but I’ve got my summons to handle those. On the flip side, I realize that shock spells cost more mana. I usually transform them into DOT spells, and with my high intelligence as a Breton, I’m managing the mana usage just fine. My question is, do I really need to explore other elemental spells like fire or frost, considering shock seems to be the best option? What do you all think?

While shock is great against daedra, it does come at a higher casting cost. You should definitely consider fire, especially since many enemies, like trolls and undead, are weak to it. Shock is solid, but for a well-rounded approach, mixing in some fire spells could be beneficial! Frost is usually not worth it unless you’re going for a specific build, like against vampires or assassins.
I made a custom spell that combines fire, frost, and shock for versatility, and it wrecks almost everything! If you can manage it, having options is always a good plan. Shock shines against daedra, but don’t forget about all those undead out there that hate fire.
Storm atronachs are actually immune to shock, so keep that in mind. If you’re leaning too heavily on shock, you might struggle against certain foes where fire could be a game-changer.
Yeah, fire is a must-have for those enemies that are weak to it—vampires and trolls fall into that category. I think if you’re not locking yourself into a single element, using both fire and shock gives you great coverage. Frost magic? It just doesn’t hold up against the others, unfortunately.
You’ve got a point! Frost’s only real use is against particular enemies, but otherwise, it lags behind fire and shock.
Love that idea! A mixed spell sounds like a smart way to handle diverse enemy types.
