Hey everyone! I haven’t played any of the Pillars of Eternity (PoE) games, so I’m curious about the lore. Specifically, I’m wondering if Sapadal and the idea of the godless disappearing are introduced in this game, or if they were mentioned in previous PoE installments. Thanks for your insights!

I see! I wonder how the fans of PoE felt about Sapadal’s introduction though.
This is actually the first time we hear about Sapadal! It’s pretty exciting since they’re hyped up as a brand new god, and it’s really meant to hit you with a ‘wow’ moment. As for the godlike vanishing, that gets set up towards the end of PoE 2, so it wasn’t really a thing until then.
While this is the first mention of Sapadal, there have been whispers about other gods beyond the Engwithans. Those Engwithan gods really kept secrets, isolating their people from understanding godhood. The Ekida, for example, hail from a place called Yezuha, mentioned in Deadfire, where they believe in their own ‘one true god’. If there’s a sequel, they could very well be the main villains!
It’s definitely a mixed bag! Some fans are thrilled about new lore and fresh takes on godhood, while others appreciate the depth of the original lore. Overall, it seems to be a big topic of conversation among the community.
