I’ve played through a bunch of Resident Evil games like RE1, REmake 2, REmake 3, REmake 4, the original RE4, RE7, and Village. I’m really interested in playing RE5 but I’m not keen on going solo with a bot. I have a friend in mind to join me, but they haven’t played any of the previous RE titles. My question is: will they still have a good time with RE5? Can they enjoy the game as much as I will, even without the backstory?

You might want to suggest they try at least Code Veronica or the OG RE1 before diving into RE5. It’ll give them a better frame of reference. Plus, Sheva does help to clarify things for new players.
It’s a decent co-op shooter, but if you’re looking for story depth, yeah, go through the earlier games first. They really set the stage for what RE5 brings to the table.
It helps to have played the previous games for the best experience, but I think RE5 can stand on its own for newcomers. The gameplay is fun and engaging, but your friend might miss some of the deeper story context without the background.
I know some players who’ve only played RE5 and they loved it! It’s a solid co-op experience, but I wonder if they’d enjoy the series more if they explored earlier titles first.
Totally! It’s fun as a casual co-op but starting with RE5 can stick them to just that game.
Honestly, starting with RE5 might not be the best idea for your friend. They could end up confused about the storyline if they don’t have the earlier games’ context.
Yeah, but I started with RE5 and had a blast! It’s definitely enjoyable even if you haven’t played the others.
