I’ve recently made the switch from MacOS to Linux Mint, and I’m really enjoying it! My main reason for the switch was to play Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with OpenMW since I can’t handle the original Morrowind’s limited view distance. However, I’ve run into a problem—after downloading the Linux version of OpenMW, it just won’t run. I’m wondering if any other Morrowind fans have faced this issue on Linux Mint, as I really want to stick with this OS and not switch again. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

If I remember correctly, I installed Luxtorpeda through ProtonUp-Qt and then selected OpenMW from the list when I launched the game. Just make sure to set Luxtorpeda as the compatibility tool in your Steam settings, and it should work fine!
I’ve had some issues with the regular system package for OpenMW too. What worked for me was downloading the Flatpak version; it ran perfectly without any hitches. You might want to give that a try!
Yes, they offer Linux builds! You can download the tar.gz file from their GitHub. Searching for “Software Manager” should help you get the Flatpak version, which is generally the most stable. It’s currently at version 0.48.0, but they’ll update it when 0.49.0 is out. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try the experimental 0.49.0 release candidates on GitHub too!
Thanks! Someone pointed me to the Flatpak version, but I’m struggling to install it. I’m not sure how to access my Steam library since everything is different on this new OS.
OpenMW does have native Linux builds available. You can find them on their official website. There are also Debian package repositories and flatpak support. Don’t worry; you don’t have to be a Linux expert to get this up and running, just look into the installation process a bit!
I got the build from that link, but it still doesn’t work for some reason.
Where can I find Flatpak? I don’t see it anywhere.
