I recently noticed something strange with my PS5. In the last week, it downloaded a whopping 1.3TB of data while it was in rest mode! This is part of a larger trend where I downloaded around 4TB last month, which is way more than my typical usage for both home and business. I suspect my kid’s Fortnite might be the cause. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Being online in games can indeed consume data, but if your PS5 was in rest mode the entire time, that shouldn’t count. It sounds like there’s definitely something else happening. Have you checked your download settings or any background downloads that might be happening without your knowledge?
That does sound like a huge amount of data! But I doubt it’s just Fortnite causing it. Even with all the updates for the game, you shouldn’t hit anything near that number—maybe a few hundred GB at most. Did you download any new games or updates at the same time?
Also, keep in mind that when your PS5 is in rest mode, it can still grab updates and download games automatically if you’ve got that setting enabled. That could explain some of the spike.
Good point! It’s always worth looking into your settings to see if there’s automatic downloading or updates enabled. You might be surprised by what gets downloaded without you knowing!
