I’ve noticed that the left bumper on my Steam Deck isn’t working properly. It requires a lot of pressure to activate, and after ordering a replacement part from iFixit, I installed it, but it still doesn’t feel like it clicks. The right bumper works fine—there’s a clear click when I press it. I took apart the right side to see if there were any differences, but they look identical. I’m contacting Steam support, but before I go that route, does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this issue without needing a full board replacement?

Hey there! It sounds like you’ve got a common issue with the left bumper. Replacing the whole button assembly is usually the solution. If you’re handy with soldering or know someone who is, you might be able to fix it yourself with an $8 part from Amazon. Valve needs to link the new board to your console, which is probably why they can’t just send a replacement without some setup on their end. I replaced my left bumper switch and it works perfectly now!
I had the same problem with my left bumper. I ended up sending mine in for repair, which cost about $150. They informed me that I needed to replace the entire daughter board because of the same issue with the left bumper’s responsiveness.
I actually just checked mine and noticed there’s a gap on the left side too! I’m hoping Steam can send me a new board without too much hassle.
