I’m having some issues with my external hard drive. It powers on just fine, and the light comes on as well. However, I can’t access any files on it. Some things show up when I plug it in, but certain installations just won’t work. When I connect it to my computer, the drive doesn’t show up at all. Could this mean my hard drive is on its way out, or is it likely just the USB cable acting up?

It sounds like your HDD might be failing. If it’s not responding properly to your computer but still powers on, that’s usually a bad sign. You should try a different USB cable just to rule that out, but if it’s still acting up, it might be time to consider replacing the drive.
I thought the same thing, but just because it powers on doesn’t guarantee it’s healthy. No weird noises is a good sign, but I’d still get a new cable and see if your PC can recognize it then. Sometimes, it’s just a bad cable causing the issues.
