Hey everyone! My brother recently borrowed a used Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and was thinking about buying it. He noticed he wasn’t getting enough frames per second (FPS) with it compared to his friend, who has worse specs but is getting around 500 FPS in the same game. I installed the GTX 1080 on my PC and set everything up, but I’m only seeing around 160 FPS while playing Valorant, which I thought was decent. Here are my specs:
– CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (3.70GHz, Vega graphics)
– RAM: 16GB DDR4
– I recently got a new power supply and have a cooling system in place.
– OS: Windows 11.
I’ve been noticing some lag with Windows lately, and my brother suggested I reinstall it, but I’m hesitant because I have important files to back up. Do you think the lag could be causing FPS issues and should I consider a Windows reinstall? Or is it possible that compatibility issues with components are at play? I know my hardware isn’t brand new, but they meet my needs pretty well. Any suggestions for boosting my FPS?

Don’t forget to consider your resolution settings as well! Are you playing at 1920×1080? If so, that’s pretty standard, but you might want to ensure your refresh rate is set right for the optimal performance.
The GTX 1080 is a solid card! But you might be hitting a CPU bottleneck with that Ryzen 5 3400G. It’s not the strongest CPU for gaming and could be the reason your FPS is lower than expected. Also, ensure your RAM is in dual channel and running at XMP settings. Those factors can definitely affect performance!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check the RAM setup and see if that helps.
