I’m feeling pretty lost with my current game run and I think it might be time for a fresh install. I usually avoid clearing the Goblin Camp until later, and I’ve just never felt motivated to do it. This time, I decided to tackle the Underdark first (except for Grymforge), and I handled the Hag before thinking I could quickly drop by the Mountain Pass to grab Lady Esther’s items.
But when I finally made my way to the Goblin Camp (though I did stop by briefly earlier), Halsin was already dead, and I never even met him. I read that can happen, which is a bummer since I can’t lift the shadow curse now. Plus, even after taking down the Goblin Leaders (or incapacitating Minthara), the “Kill the Goblin Leaders” quest doesn’t resolve, and when I go back to the grove, the Tieflings are missing and the Druids have turned hostile.
I’m not sure what went wrong, but it seems pretty messed up. Is it really worth continuing, or should I start fresh? Also, I had a strange run before Patch 8 where the map to the Shadowlands was already revealed, and the Merelocks were dead when I reached the cellar. Can I assume my installation might be corrupted?

Don’t stress! This kind of messed-up run can actually lead to a lot of fun and unique moments. You might find characters develop in ways you wouldn’t have expected. If quests and roleplay are your main focus, restarting could be okay, but I say keep it going! It might be an odd journey, but it could turn out to be an unforgettable experience.
It sounds like you progressed the story by heading to the Mountain Pass too soon. That’s why you’re experiencing these issues. When you go there, it ties up the Goblin and Grove conflict. Just so you know, it doesn’t actually kill Nere, but it does seal the grove with the ritual done, locks you out for further exploration, and the Goblin leaders leave the camp afterward. If you’re still seeing their bodies but can’t resolve the quest, then that’s likely just part of what happened when you went to the Mountain Pass earlier than expected.
You definitely haven’t broken your game! Just took a hopeful detour. If you really want a new game feel, go ahead and clear out the hostile mobs first for some extra experience. Also, consider recruiting Minthara; she’s an interesting character and could add some dramatic tension to your run!
Honestly, your campaign isn’t broken or anything! Remember, it mentions in-game to tie up loose ends before going to the Mountain Pass. But being in this situation opens up different paths! If you just want to carry on, you can fight the hostile enemies for some XP and keep going. The devs designed the game to be flexible with unique experiences depending on your choices. Not corrupted, just a different playthrough!
