I’ve always been into PC gaming, but recently I’m having a tough time with my laptop experience. I started with a non-gaming laptop about 9 years ago, then upgraded to a TUF laptop with a GTX 1050 Ti and 16 GB of RAM, which didn’t quite cut it. Recently, I got an MSI Sword with an RTX 3050 Ti and 32 GB of RAM, which performed well initially. However, I’ve been facing issues with several games lately, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the new Oblivion remake, and Life is Strange Double Exposure, all running poorly. Should I just switch to consoles, invest in a gaming PC, or is there something wrong with my current setup? Most of my games are on an SSD, and my GPU drivers are up to date, yet I’m seeing a max FPS of 70.

The issue might be the RTX 3050 Ti; it’s a weaker version optimized for laptops and can struggle with new titles. It likely doesn’t have enough VRAM for demanding games.
Yeah, that 3050 won’t handle new AAA games well at all. I have a 3060, and it struggles with Oblivion in high settings. You need to downgrade your expectations or look for a better setup.
Your specs are kind of basic for modern gaming, so don’t expect miracles. Check some benchmarks online for your laptop and see if it’s performing as it should.
I understand, but they seemed decent at purchase. Now they feel like I overpaid.
Honestly, you might want to start saving for a desktop. It’ll give you a ton more power for gaming without those tweaks and limitations.
That sounds like the best route. Appreciate the advice!
You’re running into VRAM limitations. The 3050 isn’t going to keep up with more graphics-intensive games, especially Unreal Engine 5 titles.
That makes sense. Any idea what I should look for in a better GPU?
