Hey everyone! I’m currently using an overclocked 10700k, but I’m feeling like it’s starting to lag behind, especially since my RTX 3070 isn’t cutting it anymore. I’ve been checking the used market for 7800xt GPUs and the prices look tempting, but I’m worried my 10700k won’t be able to keep up with such a powerful card. The 10900k seems like a slight bump, but it would let me stick with my existing motherboard. Should I grab the 10900k or do I need to go all out for a 13700k with a new z790 motherboard instead? Just to clarify, I’m not interested in locked CPUs or motherboards!

If you’re thinking about changing motherboards, you might as well go for the latest ultra-core Intel processors or AM5 from AMD. Those will offer much better support and performance in the long run. The 7800xt would pair nicely with them too, especially since you’re not going for the top-tier GPUs. Just keep an eye on prices!
It all depends on how slow your system feels. For me, with a 10600k and a 4080, I was getting great framerates in most games. Unless you’re looking for ultra-high FPS, your 10700k is still solid for now. Adding a new GPU might be a better move if you’re happy with your current CPU performance.
Honestly, I wouldn’t bother with the 10900k; it really doesn’t offer much of a performance increase for what you’d pay. If you’re looking to upgrade, consider going for something like the 13700k or even switching to AM5. You’ll get more longevity out of your system that way.
