I recently won an auction for five Super Famicom consoles from Japan, but none of them have been tested yet. While I paid very little for the consoles themselves, the total shipping cost to get them to the UK will be around £60. I’m using a proxy service that lets me hold the items for a limited time and either pay the shipping fee or cancel the purchase. I’m wondering if it’s worth paying the £60 shipping for all five unconfirmed consoles, or if that’s too expensive for a risk like this.

If you break it down, that’s about £12 per console, which honestly seems like a fair price for shipping, considering they’re coming from Japan. If the consoles work or just need minor fixes, you could totally come out ahead.
Yeah, since you’ve already paid for the consoles themselves, the £60 shipping might feel steep but it could be worth it if you want to keep all five. Also, if you think you might resell or repair them, that cost could balance out.
Keep in mind you’re not locked in until you pay the shipping, so if you really think the risk isn’t worth it, you can just pass on the shipping fee and let the proxy service handle the rest. But if you like the idea of possibly fixing or collecting them, £60 for five consoles is reasonable.
