A few years back, I picked up Breath of the Wild for the Switch after hearing all the rave reviews. I played for a couple of hours, but I found it hard to keep going for a couple of reasons. First, I was really bothered by the weapon durability system—my weapons kept breaking after just a few hits, and it felt like it would lead to tedious gear grinding. Second, I got stuck at an early puzzle and couldn’t figure out how to progress. Since then, so many friends and family have praised the game, insisting it’s fantastic and hard to put down. I’m a fan of open world games, having thoroughly enjoyed The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, and the Assassin’s Creed series. I’m wondering if I should give BotW another try or if it just might not be for me?

I’ve stayed away from BotW too because of the whole weapon breaking situation—it just seems tiring. Other open-world games show that it can be done differently!
Honestly, if you didn’t enjoy BotW, it might just not be your thing. I love LoZ, but BotW and even TOTK didn’t click with me like the other games did. The weapon durability always felt like a chore, and I prefer games where your gear feels permanent. If you’re like me, it could be frustrating!
You might be better off just going straight for Tears of the Kingdom. It has some similar issues as BotW but hooked me right away in a way that BotW didn’t. If BotW didn’t do it for you, TOTK might really surprise you!
Exactly! I wasn’t a huge fan of BotW either, but TOTK really captured my attention from the get-go!
The weapon breaking might seem frustrating, but it actually encourages you to adapt and change your play style based on what you find. You’ll get weapons from defeated enemies and often have to drop older ones for better ones you come across. It keeps the game fresh rather than becoming tedious over time!
Totally agree! The tough part is managing your inventory and sometimes having to toss out good weapons for new ones, but once you get past the Great Plateau, you’ll have way more gear than you can handle!
I hear you on the Great Plateau being overwhelming! Just remember, if you get stuck on a puzzle, you can always explore somewhere else. The beauty of open-world games is you can often find different paths to progress without getting tied down by one challenge.
You should still give it a shot! The weapon issue isn’t as bad as it seems, and you’d miss out on a great experience!
