I’m currently running an RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition as part of my gaming PC setup and I’m considering whether I should upgrade my GPU. My main focus is on single-player and VR games, and I occasionally dive into some competitive fast-paced titles. I usually prefer to play on medium to high settings. While I don’t prioritize having an extremely high FPS, I do appreciate smooth gameplay with good visuals. Here’s a breakdown of my current setup: an Intel Core i5 11400F CPU, a Scythe Kotetsu Mark 3 cooler, an MSI MAG B560M Bazooka motherboard, 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 RAM (2x16GB), a 2TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, and a 450W EVGA 450 BR PSU, all housed in an NZXT H500i ATX mid-tower case, running on Windows 10. I realize my setup could use some upgrades, but I’m trying to gauge if a GPU upgrade is really necessary at this point.

It’s really your call! I faced a similar situation recently. I play at 1440p with a 2070 Super and was considering an upgrade, but I was getting around 100-120 FPS, which seems fine. Instead of upgrading my GPU, I invested in a high-end monitor to really enhance my gaming experience. Sometimes optimizing settings can also work wonders for smooth gameplay!
I highly suggest upgrading your PSU first. Nvidia recommends at least a 600W PSU for the 3060 Ti, and if you do decide to upgrade your GPU later, you’ll likely need a stronger PSU anyway (usually 600-700W or more). Better safe than sorry!
That was my first plan too! Just wanted to check if upgrading the GPU is urgent before making any big changes.
Yeah, I’d recommend your PSU as a priority. But I was curious about whether upgrading my GPU right now makes sense, especially with new models coming out soon.
Upgrading to something like a 3080 Ti could definitely be worth it for your setup, especially with the kind of games you play. Just check the used prices in your area; they might be a good deal!
Totally get what you mean! If your current setup feels good, minor upgrades might be the way to go for now.
