I recently bought a used PS5 (CFI-1216A), and while I was at the store, an employee warned me not to play PS4 discs on it because it might damage the console. I have the PS4 version of Elden Ring since I heard it runs better than the PS5 version. I’m curious if there’s any truth to the employee’s warning, as I couldn’t find much information about it, but another employee mentioned that the console would be constantly reading the disc. Should I be concerned?

No worries! A lot of people have played PS4 games on their PS5 without any problems. Sounds like they were just being overly cautious or trying to push for digital sales.
For real, it’s surprising how some store employees can spread such nonsense. Just play your game! You’re good to go.
Honestly, that employee has no clue what they’re talking about. Playing PS4 discs on a PS5 is totally safe, and there’s no evidence that it could damage your console. Don’t let that scare you from enjoying your games!
Exactly! It’s just misinformation. The PS5 is designed to handle PS4 discs without any issues.
Yeah, sounds like they wanted you to buy full-price PS5 games instead. Nothing wrong with sticking to what you have!
