Is it Safe to Keep My SteamDeck Constantly Plugged In?

-

I’ve shifted jobs and no longer take my SteamDeck with me. Instead, it stays at home under my monitor, plugged in and shut down. I always keep it charging, with a Wii remote sensor and a 4TB external hard drive connected to it. Should I be worried about the battery health for when I decide to use it on a vacation or a work holiday, or am I just worrying too much?

Don’t stress it too much. The SteamDeck has a battery cycler that ensures it won’t overcharge. So even if you leave it plugged in all the time, it’s not gonna harm the battery health. It’s designed to handle continuous charging pretty well.

Even if it’s plugged in constantly, the SteamDeck is made to manage battery charging for you. But maybe try to use it once in a while to keep the battery active. Batteries like to be used, after all!

I keep mine plugged in too, ready for when my grandkids visit. Haven’t had any issues so far. It should be just fine when you’re ready to take it on a trip or to work.
