I’m planning to buy a new laptop and I’m considering the Acer Predator Helios 18. It has fantastic specs, but I’m a bit concerned about the recent issues with Intel CPUs causing crashes. I know there have been BIOS updates released by manufacturers, but I’m not sure if Intel CPUs can be trusted for long-term use. I don’t want to end up spending a couple of grand on something that might fail.

I’ve got the Acer Predator 18 with an i9 and RTX 4090, and it’s been running like a dream with zero problems. You should be fine with that setup!
Honestly, I think you’re good to go. They’ve addressed those issues a while back. If you’re really concerned about durability, you might want to steer clear of gaming laptops in general though.
I wouldn’t jump on the Intel train just yet. My Dell laptop with an RTX 3050 and i5 13450HX had some real issues with the processor, and it’s already out of warranty. Just be cautious!
If you’re considering it, just go for an HX CPU. I’m using the 13700H and it’s been solid for over a year now. Just keep in mind that HX chips are basically desktop chips but with lower wattage.
I think you meant to say ‘don’t’, since HX chips work similarly but with less power!
That sounds awesome! Can’t wait to see how it performs in the long run.
