I’m thinking about trying a little experiment with my old laptop. I bought a random laptop CPU from eBay, and I’m curious if I can actually solder a new one onto the motherboard. I want to know if it’s even feasible before I commit to doing it. Any insights?

Be prepared to invest a sizeable amount into equipment—like, 500k to 1M worth if you want it to work. Just matching the socket isn’t enough!
It’s definitely a possibility, but you’ll need some specialized equipment to get it done right. Don’t think you can just grab a soldering iron and go for it!
Yeah, you can technically do it, but it’s not something I’d recommend unless you’re really experienced. There are some YouTube videos that break it down way better than I could here.
Yeah, definitely look up CPU reballing. Best of luck with your project!
So, it is possible! But it’s an advanced soldering technique called reballing. You’ve got to make sure that the CPU matches your motherboard’s socket and that your BIOS will support it too.
