I’m curious if the Crux Terminatus can actually be removed from the armor. I always thought it might be possible since some Space Marines switch out different suits of armor throughout their lives. But I’m not entirely sure, and I could be missing something here.

It’s mainly an honor badge that signifies a Marine has earned the right to wear Terminator armor. It’s not a fixed feature of the armor. So while it can be removed, it’s typically more about showing honor than being a necessary part of the armor itself.
Yes, it seems that the Crux Terminatus can be removed. For instance, in the novel *Pandorax*, Azrael is shown taking the Crux from an old suit to use it against a demon with the Grey Knights. However, newer suits might not even have these shards, so the process isn’t always standard across all armor types.
But if it’s just an honor badge, why would they even put it on there? If a Marine is already in Terminator armor, they obviously have that right. It feels redundant to have something that states they are permitted to wear the armor they’re currently wearing.
