Hey everyone! I’m in the process of building my first gaming PC and I’m feeling pretty confident about it, but I’ve got a bit of a question. Should I go ahead and build my PC, install the operating system, update the BIOS, and get everything set up even if I don’t have my graphics card yet? Here are the components I’ve got:
– Ryzen 5 5600 (with stock cooler)
– ASRock Prime B550-M motherboard
– Netac Shadow 5 RAM (DDR4, 3200, 32GB)
– Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe SSD
– Corsair RM650 PSU
– Kolink Citadel Mesh Case in white.
I’m planning to get the ASRock Arc B580 Steel Legend GPU, but it’s going to take about a month to save up for it. I’m really eager to start using my rig, just wondering if there are any issues with setting everything up without a graphics card first. Any advice would be hugely appreciated! Cheers!

You’ll need a GPU to get your PC up and running since the Ryzen 5 5600 doesn’t have integrated graphics. So, unfortunately, you might have to wait until you can buy your GPU. Buying a cheap card just to get the system running isn’t worth it if all your funds are going towards the new GPU—better to hold off! Cheers!
Your motherboard will definitely need a GPU to display anything, and since the Ryzen 5 5600 lacks integrated graphics, you should hold off on setting things up until you have your GPU. It’ll be worth the wait to get the full experience!
Exactly what I needed to know! Thanks for the help!
If your CPU had integrated graphics, it would work without a discrete GPU, but since the 5600 doesn’t, you’ll need the graphics card to see anything on the display. It’s best to just wait until you can get your GPU to avoid any hassle down the line!
Gotcha! I’ll wait. Thanks for clearing that up!
Yeah, I figured that out, I knew my CPU wasn’t an APU. I think I’ll just wait instead of getting an old card. Thanks for the input!
