I’ve been playing Helldivers mostly on difficulty 10 and noticed that my loadouts rarely include support weapons, even when I’m doing solo dives. I play across all three fronts and I’m curious if other players also tend to skip support weapons in their setups. Is this a common playstyle or am I the odd one out here?

For bugs, I struggle to find a perfect support weapon. I often go with an orbital rail cannon, but its cooldown is brutal. For bug-heavy matches, something like the Quasar Cannon works well for me—it’s reliable with no long reload and great for taking down medium enemies quickly. What are your go-to bug killers?
When I bring support for bugs, I mix it up with Quasar Cannon, EATs, or Commandos depending on the mission. The Airburst Rocket Launcher also does great damage to heavies and bug nests if you need an all-rounder.
If you want some burst power against bugs, try the Autocannon for lower difficulty or Recoilless Rifle for higher ones. They’re ammo heavy but can melt elites and hordes fast, which can be a lifesaver in tough spots.
From my experience, the only situation I’d consider ditching a support weapon is on the squid front since you can quickly grab MG-34s, Railguns, or EATs in city zones. Otherwise, going in without a support weapon feels like a risky move to me, especially on high difficulty.
I rarely bring support weapons either. Personally, I prefer packing another offensive stratagem because support weapons tend to be common pickups on many POIs, so I usually don’t miss having one with me.
I sometimes skip support weapons on difficulty 10, but usually it ends badly for others because those players tend to die a lot and then quit mid-match. If you can manage to survive, good on you!
Yeah, I’ve noticed some players just die and then disappear, which is frustrating. I try to be cautious so I don’t end up losing my support weapons to teammates or dying unnecessarily.
I mostly stick with diff 10 too and only leave a match if real life interrupts. So I guess persistence helps!
I think it’s totally fine to go without support weapons if you’re confident in your strategy. Support weapons are just one way to handle situations—sometimes using stratagems like Strafing Runs can be just as good or better, especially on higher difficulties with dense enemy waves. Big AoE orbitals and air strikes often shine more than individual gun setups in those cases.
I mostly play at difficulties 7 and 8, and the Quasar has been my favorite. It lets me clear out mediums and trash without worrying about long reloads or heavy supply drain.
