I’ve played RE5 a long time ago on Xbox 360, but honestly, I don’t remember much from it. I noticed that RE4 and the other Resident Evil games are on sale on Steam right now. I’m curious about trying RE4 because a few of my friends rave about it, and it seems to be highly recommended everywhere. Can I just dive into RE4 without the prior games? Also, if I decide to pick up RE2 and RE3 remakes on sale, will they give me any valuable backstory for understanding RE4 better?

Honestly, it’s kind of wild to jump straight into RE4 when the whole series is there to explore—might miss some good stuff! But if that’s your plan, go for it!
If you’re only planning to pick one game, go for the best—RE4 is a blast! But if you’re feeling adventurous, definitely grab RE2 remake too. It’s worth it!
You could definitely jump right into RE4 since many new players started with it back in the day. Still, since RE4 references are dropped from RE2, checking out Leon’s scenarios might help a lot. It gives extra context, which could be fun!
Starting with RE4 is totally viable. But playing the others is highly recommended if you have the chance—especially RE2! They’re all really well done.
I’ve played the games totally out of order, starting with the original RE4! You miss some plot elements for sure, but jumping around made me curious about the series’ backstory, which reignited my interest in the franchise. You’ll be fine either way!
Totally fine to start with RE4! You’ll get the gist of the game without playing the others first. However, playing the RE2 remake could enhance your experience a bit since it shares some characters and references events from the second game. So if you have the time, it wouldn’t hurt to check it out!
YESSSS, just play RE4! It’s a classic! But honestly, the other games are epic as well, especially the RE2 remake. You won’t regret it!
I really recommend at least playing RE2. The narrative carries through, and it’s a great way to get familiar with the characters and the overall story. But hey, RE4 is amazing on its own too!
For sure! But honestly, the gameplay in RE4 is what really shines.
Yeah, exactly! The connections really add some depth.
