I just downloaded the GOG Galaxy client through Bottles and picked up some classic games like SWAT 4. I love that their games are DRM-free, and they even have new titles available without DRM. However, I’ve noticed that the client can be a little buggy. Has anyone figured out ways to improve its performance? Would it be better to just download the game installers and run those in Wine instead?

I use `lgogdownloader` and bypass the Galaxy client altogether. It works fine for me if you’re looking for a more straightforward approach.
I’d recommend using the Heroic Games launcher instead. It handles GOG and Epic Games without the headaches. Sure, there are still occasional bugs, but it’s way better than the Galaxy client!
I’ve run into some quirky bugs with the GOG Galaxy client myself, like needing to click slightly off target to highlight options. I think I’ll try Heroic to see if it plays nicer.
Lutris even has an installation script that helps set up GOG Galaxy better. Just keep in mind it might be laggy, but you’ll have access to your library, automatic game updates, and cloud saves once it’s running. If you have a lot of games, it could save you some hassle.
I’ve got a few games on GOG, but the installer can be pretty buggy. Sometimes I just prefer managing the game files directly instead of using the client.
You could also look into Lutris; it integrates well with your GOG account and can be a good alternative if you’re having issues with the Galaxy client.
Agreed! I’ve experienced less frustration using Heroic. Plus, it feels more stable overall.
