Is Gaming on Linux Actually Enjoyable?

-

I’ve been using Arch Linux for work for a while and have mainly played Stardew Valley. Recently, my Windows 11 install broke, so I switched to Nobara to give gaming on Linux a serious test. I’m curious about your experiences—do you think switching to Linux for gaming is worth it or should I stick with Windows?

Most of the time, it’s been a positive experience for me. I do miss some specific games, especially those with invasive anti-cheat systems, but overall, it’s been more enjoyable than dealing with Windows.

Same here! If you aren’t overly dependent on those AAA titles, Linux is very satisfying.

GhostNinjaX -

Exactly! I like how I can avoid that whole Windows mess while still enjoying my games.

Yeah, I’ve been gaming on Linux for quite a while now. It’s been great for me! The majority of the games I want to play work well and performance has been solid. Plus, using tools like Proton makes it a breeze!

For sure! After years of dealing with Windows, Linux has been a breath of fresh air.

V1peR -

Couldn’t agree more! And it’s nice to see new games coming out with native Linux support.

I switched to Linux a few years back, and I have no regrets. Sure, some games do require a bit of tinkering, but there’s a ton of community support out there if you hit a snag.

Right? The community is super helpful, and when you figure out a workaround, it feels rewarding.

PixelatedGaming -

Yeah, and it’s nice to see how many games have become more compatible over time.

N3rdR1d3r -

Absolutely yes! Most games I play run just as smoothly on Linux as they do on Windows. I particularly enjoy not having to deal with the Windows updates and bloatware.

G4m3rJ0e -

Agreed! The performance is often just as good, if not better, especially with games that support Vulkan.

C0d3W1z -

For me, it really feels great not worrying about Windows-related issues anymore.

S3r1ousLynx -

It depends on what games you’re into! Personally, I play mostly single-player games, and I haven’t had any major issues. Just check on ProtonDB to see how games you want to play run on Linux before you jump in.

Opt1musPr1me -

Exactly! Most single-player titles run like a charm. It’s not a problem for me at all.

Pwnage0 -

Totally! If you’re avoiding multiplayer games with anti-cheat, it’s pretty smooth sailing.
