The game is definitely alive! We’re in a bit of a divisive expansion, but it’s not going anywhere soon. Just try out the free trial if you haven’t already!
I’d say it’s still very much alive, maybe just slightly past its peak. There’s a good number of players and a vibrant community, even if it’s shrunk a bit after the latest expansion. For a game that’s been around for over ten years and has wrapped up its main story arc a while back, it’s doing pretty well.
FFXIV has a solid community! While the current expansion has split opinions, I think you should definitely give it a shot. They offer a huge free trial that lets you play through three expansion storylines, so it’s worth checking out.
