I’m curious if Final Fantasy IX is regarded as the hardest game in the series to complete fully, especially considering challenging tasks like getting the Excalibur II and the notorious jump rope challenge. While I know it’s considered one of the more difficult titles, I’m not sure if it’s the absolute hardest. If it is, are there any other games outside of the mainline series (like sequels or spin-offs) that might be even tougher to 100%?

Well, if we’re talking about online games, FF14 can totally take years to achieve 100%, especially with all the collectibles and grindy content. But for classic offline experiences, IX stands out for me. Just the jump rope! I gave up after hours of practice!
Definitely, a lot of players find the jump rope challenge and the time limit for Excalibur II make FFIX one of the hardest to 100%. Personally, though, I think FFX-2 could take the crown. You really have to nail down so many small details to see the true ending, and it’s super easy to miss things on your first playthrough!
I think it all depends on your playstyle. Some folks cruise through challenges while others find the rhythm stuff agonizing. I get that FFIX has its iconic hurdles, but FFX-2 definitely has tons of missable trophies that can ruin a playthrough. It’s all about what irks you more!
I feel like every fan has their pick for the hardest. For me, it’s IX, mostly because of that pesky jump rope! But IX has so many unique requirements that you can’t just rush through; it requires serious dedication. However, it’s interesting to hear about others claiming FFX-2 is just as hard due to its own frustrations.
I’d argue that FF12 has its share of difficulty too, especially with the Yiazmat super boss, which can take forever to beat! But for pure 100% completion challenge, I do think FFIX might take the cake. The expectation to complete it all without missing those timing-based tasks is pretty intense.
