I’ve just started playing The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) on PlayStation (EU), and so far, it’s been a mix of good and bad experiences. As a longtime MMO player, I’m excited for the freedom and customization that ESO offers. However, I recently had a frustrating experience in a normal dungeon when my group started criticizing my build over voice chat for not using the so-called ‘meta’ setups. I was under the impression that ESO would be a more casual game where I could play my way. Now I’m worried that this might be a glimpse of how the endgame will feel—full of toxicity and the pressure to conform to cookie-cutter builds. I’ve heard there’s loads of content in ESO, but I want to avoid feeling forced into a single playstyle like in other MMOs. Is it possible to enjoy a more laid-back approach at endgame, or is it going to be as strict as it seems? Also, is the player population healthy on PS EU?

Don’t let a few toxic players ruin your gaming experience! I’ve played since launch, and I’ve had pretty chill runs in normal dungeons. Most of the player base values fun over rigid builds. It’s all about your mindset and finding the right people to play with.
Yeah, I’ve noticed the population dips around events, but it’s usually pretty healthy. Toxicity does happen, especially with high-level guilds focused on meta, but there are plenty of casual guilds out there for relaxed gaming.
Good to know! I really hope I can enjoy the game the way it’s meant to be played. I just don’t want to end up in a group where I have to conform to a strict build.
Don’t sweat it, mate! I’m on PS EU too, and honestly, those toxic players are the exception, not the rule. In normal dungeons, most folks just want to get through the content and won’t bother you about your build. Focus on having fun; you can solo a lot of the normal stuff anyway with the right gear.
I hear you! I’m loving the PVE aspect as well, but those fast dungeon runs can be overwhelming. Just remember, the meta is overrated—if you stick to your style, you’ll have a blast!
Normal dungeons can definitely get some unexpected reactions, but as you play more, you’ll find that most players just want to clear it without any fuss. There’s so much solo content and the customization is a big part of what makes ESO unique, so don’t let one bad run ruin your experience!
From my experience, most dungeon groups are pretty chill. It’s when you start running veteran dungeons that the pressure cranks up. If you want to enjoy the lore, just find groups that resonate with your pace, or solo with companions—they’re great for exploring at your own speed!
Wait, you can solo group dungeons with companions? That’s awesome! I thought I needed a full party for that. Gonna have to try it out!
Yeah, I appreciate that perspective. I just want to make sure I can craft my own character without too much pressure down the line.
