I’m considering purchasing a 3080 GPU that’s around 3-4 years old. I’ve seen that some folks are still rocking 1080s, so I’m hopeful this GPU could last me at least another 5 years. Do you think that’s realistic? Also, should I be planning on doing any extra cleaning or maintenance on it?

Honestly, age isn’t the biggest concern. I’ve been using GPUs that are years old without issues. If it’s working well now, it should continue to do so. My 6-year-old GPU is still running great!
Most GPUs are quite durable, and even a 10-year-old 1080 Ti can still function well, though it might need thermal paste replacement eventually. If the 3080 has survived the first few years, it should be good for quite a while! Just keep an eye on it for any issues.
If you mean ‘good’ as in it simply still works, then yes, it should last a while. But if you’re looking to play the latest AAA games at high settings and FPS for another 5 years, that could be trickier. Just keep in mind that more demanding games may force you to lower the settings as time goes on.
The 3080 is still a solid choice! I picked up a nearly new one for about $350. It handles most games well with high settings. Just remember to keep things balanced—lowering upscaling might help extend its life a bit, especially since it can last another few years without needing major overclocking.
Buying a 3-4 year old GPU like the 3080 is generally fine, especially if benchmarks and stress tests look solid. Just keep in mind that fans might need replacing if there’s dust buildup, so make sure to do some fan tests and basic maintenance occasionally.
lol ok I’m probably overthinking it
