I’m someone who usually plays through a game once and calls it good, picking my preferred route and build, then moving on. Avowed took me over 50 hours to finish, and I’m wondering if it’s really worth investing all that time again for a second playthrough. Does the story or gameplay change enough to make it feel fresh? Are there enough different outcomes or character builds to justify diving back in?

I like to run two different playthroughs concurrently — one where I use magic and another with melee or ranged. Switching between them keeps the gameplay fresh for me and helps me see different story choices and character options. I clocked around 215 hours total on Avowed doing this. But if you found the 50-hour first run repetitive, a second run might not be your thing unless you’re really invested in all the narrative branches and choices.
I’m doing my second playthrough mainly because I really enjoy the game and there’s no New Game+ or DLC yet to extend it. If you focused mostly on the main story in your first run, you could definitely cut down the time a lot compared to exploring every side quest like I did. For the second run, I’m aiming for different endings since there are several to unlock. Honestly, if you want more Avowed time, just play again at your own pace, maybe taking breaks so it doesn’t get stale. If you’re satisfied now, waiting for DLC might be your best bet.
If you’re like me and usually don’t replay games, I’d say you might want to skip a second playthrough unless you’re chasing achievements or just super into the game. The differences exist, but they’re mostly about dialogue tweaks and some outcomes, not huge world changes. Also, the last parts of the game are quite combat-heavy and linear, which got repetitive for me. But if you want to experience certain story beats or just try a different style, go for it! Just don’t feel pressured if you want to move on.
There’s definitely a noticeable difference depending on who you side with, like the Steel Garrote or the Living Lands. While Avowed doesn’t have as many background options as some RPGs, choices in background and playstyle can change how quests play out and how NPCs react to you. For example, playing a stealthy archer versus a heavy resolve build can open different dialogue and approaches. The story outcomes shift in some big ways, though the core missions stay the same. I wouldn’t rush a second run; giving yourself some time between runs helps you appreciate the differences more, especially if DLC adds new content later on.
Good call on trying a harder difficulty and a different faction this time around. Appreciate the advice!
There are definitely some meaningful changes depending on your choices, especially in parts of Act 2 and an early dialogue option involving a character named Kai that can totally change how companions react to you and how the story feels overall. However, these changes don’t usually block entire questlines, and many outcomes are subtle. If you normally prefer one-and-done games, it might not be the type that really demands a second full playthrough. You can even savehop near big decisions to see different endings without replaying everything. But if you love experimenting with different builds and seeing variant reactions, it’s worth at least one more go.
Thanks! I really did explore a lot and took my time, so a break before trying again sounds smart.
