Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice on my setup. I’ve been dealing with some issues with my X99-A II motherboard (debug code 00), but if I manage to fix it, I’m planning to pair an i7-6850K running at a stable 4.3GHz with an RTX 2080 (the non-Super version). I mainly play AAA single-player games, and I dabble in multiplayer games like Apex and Warzone, primarily at 1080p and 1440p. Do you think this CPU and GPU combination will hold up well for modern gaming? Are there any potential bottlenecks I should be aware of? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

You should expect some CPU bottleneck with that setup in most scenarios. The 6850K is decent, but it may struggle to keep up in CPU-intensive games, especially at 1440p. If you’re aiming for smooth gameplay, consider lowering some settings or resolving the bottlenecks.
According to a CPU bottleneck calculator, you’re looking at about an 11.1% bottleneck during GPU-heavy tasks at 1440p. So, while it’s manageable for many games, there might be instances where the CPU holds you back. Just tailor your settings based on what you’re playing.
It really depends on the game you’re playing. The performance of your i7-6850K paired with the RTX 2080 is quite dated compared to newer components. While you might get decent results at 1080p, you may struggle with more demanding titles at higher settings, especially at 1440p. Just be prepared for potentially lower frame rates in the newer games you mentioned.
Honestly, it’s not as bad as some folks say. I’ve heard that a 4.3GHz overclocked i7-6850K performs similarly to an R7 2700X. If you’re mainly playing something like Forza Horizon 5 at 1440p on ultra settings, you should still be able to enjoy the game, but keep an eye on the frame rates.
