I’m curious if I should invest in a Steam Deck, especially since I primarily enjoy casual games similar to what’s found on Nintendo consoles, like Animal Crossing, Pokémon, and Stardew Valley. I’ve also been eyeing simulation games like Planet Zoo and Two Point games. I’d love to explore mods for Stardew, but I’m not sure if that’s possible on the Steam Deck. I don’t have any gaming PC experience and feel a bit out of my depth with tech specs. Given this, would a Steam Deck be a good fit for my gaming style, or would it end up being overkill?

Have you got any access to a PC, even if it’s not a gaming one? I think using the Steam Deck as a handheld can really give you an advantage. I replaced my Switch with mine, and I’ve found it a solid choice! You might even want to check out Xbox Game Pass for a month to see if any of the games there appeal to you; some titles might really click with your style!
Honestly, if your main console is a Switch and you enjoy those style games, the Steam Deck could fit right in. You mentioned multiplayer games and mods too; while mods are possible, it’ll take a bit of research. Plus, if you have a good internet connection, streaming services like XCloud can expand your gaming options without needing a rig!
The Steam Deck could be an awesome choice for you! I don’t own a gaming PC either; I mostly use my Steam Deck as a more powerful version of the Switch. As for games like Planet Zoo, I haven’t tried it, but Planet Coaster runs well on my device. You’ll need to get familiar with tweaking some settings for different games, but once you do, the variety you’ll get is totally worth it.
