I’m considering whether I should invest in a Steam Deck since some of my friends find theirs pretty useful. Currently, I’ve got a solid gaming PC filled with Steam games that I play regularly, along with a PS5 for exclusives, and a Switch that I hardly touch. I’m mainly gaming at my desk, so I’m curious if a Steam Deck would really bring any advantages right now, especially with my low usage of the Switch. I’d love to hear when and why you use your Steam Deck and if it’s worth it given my situation. Thanks!

I used to have a Switch that I barely touched, but I really enjoy my Steam Deck. The ability to emulate games and access your PC library gives it way more usability than the Switch ever had.
I’ve got a PS5, Steam Deck, and an Xbox Series S. I mainly use my Steam Deck docked with Windows, since I don’t have a laptop. It’s great for playing games like Metaphor or Persona, though not for online stuff. If you’ve got the cash, I’d say go for it, or you could wait for the Steam Deck 2 – it’s bound to be even better!
I was in a similar boat and actually sold my Switch before getting a Steam Deck. It’s nice having a PC and Deck combo because I can stream games from my PC while lounging on the couch or in bed. It’s also awesome for indie games and emulation. If you’re not interested in gaming on the go or away from your desk, you might be better off sticking with what you have since you’ve got access to a lot already.
I’ve got a similar setup and I use my Deck about 90% of the time. When I’m not diving into multiplayer or FPS games on my main rig, I’m on the Deck. It was the best gaming investment I’ve made, especially for older titles, emulation, and indies!
If you want to enjoy PC games away from your desk, the Steam Deck could be a good choice for you. But if you’re okay with the desk setup and don’t mind the graphics trade-off for portability, it may not be justifiable. Your usage would probably mirror that of the Switch if you don’t plan on gaming outside your home.
