I’m considering buying a second-hand PS5 for $340 USD. It comes with the games Wukong and Astrobot, plus one controller. I’m wondering what I should check for before buying, and if this price is reasonable. I think it’s a good deal, but I’m worried I might be acting too impulsively. Also, if the console is from 2021, is that too old? I’ll be sure to check the manufacturing date when I get there.

Buying tech second-hand can be risky, especially if it’s not from a big store. Think about this: you could get a new digital PS5 for about $400 at Walmart, or $380 at GameStop. For just a bit more, you’d know you’re getting a console in perfect condition with a return option if needed. I get that you’re sacrificing a controller and games, but if it turns out broken, wouldn’t you feel a bit cheated? You might consider saving a little more for peace of mind.
If you’re getting it from Facebook Marketplace, be careful! It’s a good idea to see it start up and run a game before handing over any cash.
Testing marketplace PS5s for defects can be tricky. Sometimes by the time you realize something’s wrong, it’s too late, and the seller’s gone.
