I’m looking to build a new character focused on melee chaos damage and poison, inspired by some cool concepts from my first character. Originally, I tried to deal chaos damage using physical damage converted to chaos, but it didn’t go well, and I couldn’t finish the campaign. After learning more about the game, I noticed some poison builds but they were mostly ranged or lacked direction. Now, I’m planning to create a new character that inflicts poison on enemies while also dealing chaos damage. I’m considering a hybrid approach using both daggers and claws, since dagger mastery boosts damage against poisoned enemies, and claws provide instant leech for survivability. I was thinking of using a pneumatic dagger and a wasp nest, or crafting a claw with damage over time and chaos damage. Is this a solid plan, or am I being overly ambitious? I also meant to ask about AoE melee options, like Reave or Blade Flurry.

Viper Strike with a Mamba is a great option for this kind of build. Just keep in mind that there might be nerfs coming, especially since cluster jewels are on the chopping block. But as it stands, it’s a strong build, and Bino’s will likely remain affordable, making it easier to gear up.
Sure, melee poison can totally work, but don’t expect to deal much hit damage. GGG balances these builds in a way that your life leech will be pretty low. It’s better to focus on crit to regain life and rely on your poison for overall damage. Liquidate your expectations around hit damage and you should be golden!
That makes sense! The idea is to stack poison and use skills that enhance your cooldowns, right?
Yeah, Mamba’s do well even with potential nerfs, but you might lose some bossing power. Still, if you plan your build properly, you can reach the poison dot cap.
