Hey everyone! I’m diving into Oblivion for the first time through the Remaster, and I’m about four hours in. Loving the game so far! I’ve spent tons of time in Skyrim and built my Khajiit (Thief/Assassin) using my favorite playstyle from there. However, I can’t shake the feeling that I’m missing out on a magic build—like a Destruction or Spellblade build. I know the game is flexible and can be played differently, but would it be better to restart for a more magic-focused character? Luckily, I have a save right at the end of the sewers that I can use for a respec. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mage builds are arguably the most powerful in the game. Plus, the magic guild quest line is really fun! If you’re considering a switch, it might be worth diving into magic, especially since it scales well in the higher difficulty levels.
Magic is seriously overpowered in Oblivion. Once you hit higher levels in Destruction and Restoration, it gets ridiculously strong. However, keep in mind playing as a mage can be tougher than your current build. But trust me, once you hit that sweet spot, it becomes epic!
I wouldn’t say you have to switch for a blind playthrough. Just play what you enjoy! Melee can also break the game in its own way. There’s a crazy trick involving stacking elemental damage and weaknesses, which can dish out insane damage fast!
In the remastered version, you actually level up much quicker than the original. You could focus on Intelligence and Willpower for your next character, then go all out with Destruction spells. It levels up fast with every hit, so you could make a really strong magic user soon!
