Hey everyone, I just installed my CPU in the motherboard for the first time and there’s no thermal paste to worry about. I’m thinking about cleaning the CPU to remove any dust before I proceed. Do I need to get 91% alcohol for that, or will 70% do the trick? Thanks for your help!

Honestly, cleaning a brand new CPU before installation doesn’t really have any benefits, but if it makes you feel better, go for it! Just don’t overdo it with the alcohol; it’s not necessary unless you’re dealing with thermal paste or serious grime.
Using 70% alcohol should be fine if you want to clean it up a bit. Just avoid getting it too wet and make sure it dries completely before you start using it. The alcohol shouldn’t harm anything as long as it’s not soaked.
If you’re installing a new CPU, there’s really no need to clean it unless you can see actual dust or debris. Just make sure to handle it carefully. If you want to wipe it down for peace of mind, 70% alcohol won’t hurt, but it’s probably overkill for a brand new part.
Just remember, you’re not prepping a meal. LOL! A quick wipe with 70% alcohol is fine, but if it makes you nervous, maybe just let it be. It’s pretty much clean out of the box.
