I’m seeing that MSI is offering preorders for a laptop featuring the RTX 5080, powered by an ultra 7 255HX processor, 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a QHD 240Hz display for $2200 with no sales tax in my state. Does this seem like a solid deal, or should I expect prices to drop later this year?

I think it’s a great deal! Given that 4080 laptops are hitting similar prices, you’re getting flagship tech with the latest display features. It’s definitely worth considering!
Good point about power draw! If they’re not pushing the full 175W on the 5080m, it could end up underperforming compared to others in that category. Laptop GPUs often depend on how much wattage the manufacturer allocates, which definitely affects performance. That could be why they’re pricing it competitively at $2200.
Check out benchmarks online or manufacturer specs, that usually gives insight!
Honestly, $2200 feels like a decent price for that setup. I was about to preorder the MSI Vector myself but ended up going for the 4080 MSI Raider instead since it was $2099. With the 5080 being brand new and no reviews out yet, I was a bit worried about the risk since I’ll be leaving the country soon, making returns tricky. But from what I gather, the 5080 should be around 5-15% faster than the 4080, though we need official benchmarks to be sure. Also, keep in mind that the Intel CPU in the 5080 is a bit concerning since the previous gen Intel chips weren’t stellar for gaming. Let’s see how this new generation does!
Yeah, we might be lucky to see even a 15% boost. Just hope they don’t mess up like they did with the desktop versions of the 5080.
If Intel’s a worry, there’s the Ryzen version available too!
Looks nice to me!
How can we find out the power limits on that model?
