In Search of a Game with a Focus on Mysterious Tower or Dungeon Exploration

-

I’ve been diving into manga like Delicious in Dungeon and Tower Dungeon and now I’m itching for a game with that mysterious ancient tower or dungeon feel. I’m thinking about something similar to Slay the Spire but with more narrative or maybe Dark Souls/Elden Ring but focused on one singular mysterious tower, exploring level by level. Persona 3’s Tartarus is probably the closest I’ve played so far. Got any recommendations to scratch this adventure itch?

I recommend looking into Shiren the Wanderer: Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate. It’s part of the Mystery Dungeon series, which revolves around exploring enigmatic dungeons. This one, in particular, has the whole main story unfolding in the eponymous tower, which might be right up your alley.

Thanks for the tip! I’m definitely going to look into that. Sounds perfect!

Have you checked out Devil May Cry 3? The whole game takes place almost exclusively inside a massive tower. It’s got that gothic mysterious vibe you might be looking for. Also, while it’s not exactly a tower, Luigi’s Mansion 3 offers an exploration through a themed hotel that kind of has the vertically-stacked mystery you’re after. It’s got more humor than most dungeon games, but it’s architecturally wild, even if it’s a bit more quirky than you’re aiming for.

I’ve played Luigi’s Mansion, and yeah, it doesn’t quite vibe with what I’m thinking, but I get the suggestion. Thanks anyway! Something like a single sprawling dungeon or darkest dungeon but all in one place is what I’m after.

You might want to give Tower of Time a shot. It’s an RPG centered on exploring a mysterious tower, just as you’re looking for. The turn-based tactical combat is a bit different, but it could scratch that exploration itch. For something classic, Legend of Grimrock is fantastic as a modern take on the old dungeon crawling games. The atmosphere and sense of mystery may hit the spot for you.

Sweet, I’ll check those out. Thanks for the recs!
