Hey everyone! A while ago, I picked up Breath of the Wild when it first launched because it was getting amazing reviews. However, after playing for a couple of hours, I struggled to get into it. The main issues for me were the weapon durability that seemed to lead to tedious gear management and getting stuck on a puzzle early in the game. Over the years, I’ve heard countless friends rave about this game and how it’s a must-play. I’m a big fan of open-world games, having loved titles like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, and the Assassin’s Creed series. So, has anyone else felt this way? Should I give it another go?

The nice thing about open-world games is that if you hit a wall with a puzzle, you can just go explore elsewhere until you feel ready to tackle it again. That’s what I did, and it worked out great!
It might just not click for you. I’ve been a fan of Zelda forever, but BOTW and TOTK just aren’t my type. The weapon durability feels frustrating and I’d prefer more permanent upgrades like in Monster Hunter.
Honestly, I didn’t get into BotW either. But when Tears of the Kingdom came out, it changed everything for me. It addressed a lot of what I found boring in the first game, so it might be worth trying that instead!
The weapon breaking isn’t as bad as it sounds! You’ll constantly find new weapons from defeated enemies, so it keeps things interesting. You might end up dropping perfectly good weapons just to make room for better ones you find. It’s more about encouraging you to adapt your play style based on what you have.
I’ve avoided BOTW due to the weapon breaking mechanic you mentioned. It just seems tedious. Other games like Elden Ring show that you can have a great open-world experience without it.
Just give it a shot! It’s really not a big deal; you might enjoy the game despite that aspect.
I can relate to that! The Great Plateau can be overwhelming at first, but I promise if you push through to your first Divine Beast, the game really opens up. Just don’t worry too much about the weapons early on; it gets easier once you get used to it!
So true! It can be annoying at first, but once you hit the shrines, you’ll have a ton of weapons to choose from!
