This morning after the latest update, the HoYoLAB launcher refuses to start on Proton. It shows a Win32-style message box about an assertion failure. I’ve tried running it with different Proton GE versions like GE-27, Hotfix, and Experimental, but no luck so far. Has anyone else experienced this or found a way to fix it?

I saw some chatter about this issue linked in other gaming forums. It seems like an update on HoYoLAB caused a lot of people running it on Proton to get high CPU usage or crashes. Might be worth checking out community threads focused on this, someone might have a workaround or a patched Proton build soon.
I ran into the exact same problem today. What worked for me was repairing the installation files. If you can get to the launcher’s repair option, that usually fixes the assertion error after updates.
Yeah, it’s definitely a recent issue—my launcher worked fine yesterday but after the update it just won’t start in gaming mode. Occasionally it manages to run in desktop mode, but that’s pretty inconsistent and not ideal if you want to play.
Thanks! The problem is I can’t even start the launcher to get to the repair button. Any tweak on how to trigger the repair without launching normally?
