I’m really interested to see how the Steam Deck performs with Windows 11 as of 2025. Are all the necessary drivers available now? Is it worth using Windows instead of SteamOS?

While drivers are mostly available now, Windows still isn’t optimized for the Steam Deck. It can be slow and the idle load is high, causing the fan to run constantly. On my setup, updates take too long, and overall, it just doesn’t feel like a gaming OS. I love Windows on my desktop, but it’s a hassle on the Deck right now.
Some folks want Windows for Xbox streaming or to play games with anti-cheat systems that don’t play nice with Linux. There’s also the thrill of pushing tech to do what it wasn’t intended for. But hey, if you can handle that kind of challenge, more power to you!
I dual booted Windows 11 on my Steam Deck a couple of years back and honestly, it runs great! Just make sure to debloat Windows and install the Handheld Companion app, and you’ll have a smooth experience. Don’t let the haters get you down!
What do you mean by debloating? Did it have too much junk on it?
Sounds like you didn’t set it up properly. What exactly did you try?
