I’m curious about how Far Cry 5 runs on the Steam Deck. I’ve looked up a lot of details on ProtonDB and various Reddit threads, but I’m still left with conflicting answers. Some players say it runs smoothly at around 40 FPS, while others claim it struggles to maintain even 30 FPS. I thought I’d reach out to the community and see if anyone who recently bought it during a sale could share their experience.

I’ve played it without many issues on mine. So it’s definitely playable!
I can’t really speak for Far Cry 5 specifically, but I played Far Cry 3 and it ran perfectly smooth. So you might be in for a treat with 5. Just keep in mind that my experience with 5 is limited, sorry!
The short answer is: check out YouTube! There’s a lot of gameplay footage that can help you gauge performance.
Overall, it runs at around 40 FPS on Ultra settings, maybe dips into the 50s on Low, but I found it drops below 30 FPS quite often, especially during action sequences.
I found it pretty usable overall, although you’ll run into some issues with controls. For example, the brake button isn’t mappable since the game originally launched on Steam. This has been a long-standing problem that Ubisoft seems to ignore!
Yeah, I ran into that too! I managed to fix it by mapping the keyboard reverse input to one of the back buttons.
From my experience, Far Cry 5 runs reasonably well on my Steam Deck. I have the LCD version, and after some initial performance hiccups, I found some solid settings from a YouTube video that helped me lock in a steady 40 FPS without making the game look terrible. Just a heads up: since it requires the Ubisoft launcher, you’ll need to be online for the initial startup. I ended up uninstalling it and streaming the game from my PC instead since I could play at maximum quality.
Here’s what worked for me:
– Texture filtering: Ultra
– Shadows: Normal
– Geometry and Vegetation: Ultra
– Environment: High
– Water: High
– Terrain: Normal
– Volumetric Fog: Normal
– Anti-Aliasing: TAA
– Motion Blur: Off
– FOV: 90 (helps improve FPS)
– V-Sync: Off
– Resolution: Native
It can lag a bit when fast traveling, but it typically stays above 30 FPS, often around 40.
Thanks a lot! I’m probably going to grab it now that I see it’s manageable.
That’s not always reliable though. It’s super easy for someone to stream a game in a way that makes it look better than it actually runs.
