So, I’ve got this friend who’s been wreaking havoc in our in-house Pokémon tournaments with a team full of Pokémon that know Thief. It’s super annoying because they keep stealing our items! I’m trying to build a team of my own using the Klutz ability since it means I won’t be using held items. What are some ‘bad’ items I can use that will counter their Thief strategy and mess with my friend’s plans?

I just found out about Jaboca Berry, which will deal 1/8 HP damage to any attacker trying to steal it! It’s a solid option since you can avoid the Klutz issue too. Consider pairing it with a Gliscor that has Poison Heal and Toxic Orb. Use Protect to activate Toxic Orb before they can steal it, and if they wisen up, just Fling it at them!
You can try out items like Lagging Tail, Flame Orb, Toxic Orb, and Black Sludge. They don’t really help you much but can really disrupt their strategy by inflicting status effects or messing with their speed.
For some less common items, consider Ring Target or Sticky Barb. Power items can also slow them down since their Thief strategy relies on speed!
Having a Justified Lucario with a mega stone could be a brutal counter. Mega stones can’t be stolen, and if you get hit by a dark move, you boost your attack. Just be ready to switch in at the right time! Arcanine and Gallade also have that ability.
Any Fire-type with a Flame Orb or Steel/Poison type with a Toxic Orb will punish those item thieves hard. They can’t steal the item right away since the type advantage means they might hesitate. Plus, those with Guts or Poison Heal can benefit from the status, making it even more frustrating for them!
