I’m trying to unlock Astarion’s romance before the party so I can move on to the romance with Minthara during the party. Right now, Astarion’s approval rating is at 49, which should normally trigger the romance scenes, but I haven’t been getting any cutscenes after my long rests. Also, I never experienced the bite scene with him. Does that impact my ability to romance him? I’m concerned about progressing to the creche or shadow realm without it, fearing I might miss out on the romance entirely.

It’s strange that Astarion hasn’t gone for a bite yet. Did he confess that he’s a vampire? If he did, that could lock you out of the bite scene, which would prevent you from starting his romance outside of the party. Just a heads-up, you need at least 40 approval to trigger the romance, and you have to let him bite you for it to work. Also, make sure you’re not simultaneously trying to date someone else.
It’s definitely odd you’re not getting the bite scene. Usually, it should happen pretty quickly, especially if you’ve encountered the exsanguinated boar. You need that scene for him to propose romance to you, and remember, this happens in the Wilderness, not at camp.
Just to clarify, you can start his romance at the party, but if you’re at 40 approval before then, he can ask you to spend the night together. In that scene, he’ll credit you for helping him with his hunger, and it sounds like missing that scene is why yours isn’t triggering.
