I’m trying to stream games from my gaming PC to my Steam Deck, which is docked to a 4K HDR TV in my living room. My PC’s main monitor runs at 3440×1440, and I can’t set games to stream at 4K resolution. I believe it’s because my host PC’s monitor doesn’t support 4K. I’ve fiddled with the NVIDIA control panel to create a custom 4K resolution but it fails since the monitor can’t handle it. I also played around with using a virtual display driver set to 4K and switched to Moonlight streaming, but I still can’t get it to work properly. Has anyone dealt with a similar setup? How did you manage to stream in 4K?

Using the Apollo / Moonlight setup could really help you out. It has a built-in virtual monitor that you can set to 4K. I found it easier to unplug my main monitor and boot straight into the virtual monitor. This way, it picks up on your 4K TV. After I tried that, all my streaming issues went away. Definitely check out the Apollo / Moonlight guide on YouTube, it’s straightforward!
This is the way! I had similar issues and it really fixed everything.
If you’re looking for alternatives to Apollo, check out the Virtual Display Driver. It can be used for various purposes, and you can find it on GitHub. Might be worth a look if you want to try something different!
I also had this problem. Switching to the Apollo fork of Moonlight completely solved my issues. After making the switch, I even opted to rack mount my gaming rig in the garage since it worked so well! Now I can stream my games to my Apple TV or the Ubuntu client I set up in my office. It’s been a game changer!
Thanks for the tip! I’ve just downloaded Apollo, excited to see if it works for me!
