My friend is playing Minecraft on his laptop, but for some reason, it’s defaulting to the Intel HD graphics instead of the NVIDIA GPU. We’ve tried changing the graphics settings in the game and the NVIDIA control panel, but nothing seems to fix it. Any tips? Just a heads up, we’re playing on version 1.20.1 of Java.

Check if the laptop is on low power mode. I’ve had issues where my games wouldn’t run on the dedicated GPU unless I was on a high-performance setting. You can also specify how to set the GPU using the NVIDIA Control Panel. You might want to double-check those settings!
Is the laptop plugged in while he’s playing? Sometimes they can default to integrated graphics when they’re on battery power. My friend’s laptop always keeps the NVIDIA GPU active when it’s plugged in.
Yep, it is plugged in! His laptop doesn’t even have a battery, so it’s always getting power.
Here’s a quick rundown on how to force it to use the NVIDIA GPU: Open NVIDIA Control Panel, go to 3D Settings, then Manage 3D Settings, and set the Preferred graphics processor to High performance NVIDIA processor. After that, check Minecraft with F3 to make sure it’s using the NVIDIA GPU. It might just need that final push!
Tried that already, but unfortunately, it didn’t fix the issue. Still stuck on Intel.
We made sure it’s not on low power mode, and we selected java.exe to high performance in the control panel.
