I’ve recently switched from Windows to Linux Mint and am running Stellaris through Steam using Proton 9.0-4. Even though Stellaris has a native Linux version, I have a specific reason for needing the Windows version. However, the game runs frustratingly slow, with significant lag even in the menus. Could anyone provide tips or solutions to boost performance without switching to the Linux native version?

You might have diffs with Proton configurations. Sometimes, tweaking settings or trying different distros of Proton can lead to better performance. Fiddling with things like fullscreen optimization, and fiddling with different proton versions, can unexpectedly enhance your gaming experience. Keep experimenting!
You mentioned wanting the Windows version for a specific reason. If it’s a mod or something that’s causing this slowdown, sometimes those can be a bit hit-or-miss with Proton. You might wanna check Steam forums or runtime discussions for others who’ve had similar issues. Also, updating to the latest Proton version or even downgrading one version could surprisingly fix the lag, so give that a shot.
It might help to check what filesystem your games are installed on. Usually, something like EXT4 works better on Linux. If you’re using NTFS, it could be causing some performance dips since NTFS support on Linux isn’t always perfect.
