I recently played in a 1.5k tournament at my local game store and had a rough experience in the final round against a Necron player. I had won my first two games, but during our match, my opponent casually mentioned that he should have had two heavy Lokhust destroyers. He then pulled an extra one from his bag, which raised some red flags for me. After the game, my Necron friend and I calculated that his army list was actually 55 points over due to that extra destroyer, which likely contributed to his victory. Additionally, he used a Stratagem incorrectly with the Silent King and somehow scored 24″ of devastating wounds from his Triarch Stalker. I ended up placing 3rd while he took 1st, but now I feel cheated. Should I bring this up with the tournament organizer, or am I just being childish?

Honestly, if an opponent tries to change their list mid-game, don’t hesitate to ask for their list. If they’re playing fairly, they should have no problem showing it. You let him get away with it this time, so maybe learn from this and keep a closer eye next time!
If there was a referee around, definitely talk to them about it. They should have caught the extra points your opponent added on the spot. If not, bring it up with the tournament organizer without mentioning your name for now—just let them know something was off.
Man, that’s rough! You gotta be diligent when it comes to checking lists. It’s sad that some players resort to sneaky tactics. I had a similar issue once, and when I confronted the guy, he totally freaked out. Luckily, the event organizers booted him right away. Just remember, if they can’t provide proof of their list, that’s a huge red flag.
It’s a tough situation. You could say it’s a classic move from a Necron player! But next time, maybe make it a habit to check their lists before the game starts. It’s a good way to avoid surprises like this. That said, make sure to call them out on it if you see any last-minute changes.
