Hey everyone! I’ve recently started using Fedora and I’m planning to ditch Windows for good. Most of the games I play work through Steam or I’ve figured them out, but I’m stuck trying to get Sims 3 running. I installed all the game and DLCs through Lutris, but every time I launch it, I get a message saying to reinstall the base game, which I’ve already tried. Most of the guides I found seem outdated and aren’t helping much. Has anyone successfully installed Sims 3 on Linux? I’d really appreciate any tips on where I might be going wrong.
EDIT: I got a bit mixed up and it seems Lutris did too; the startup was pointing to the wrong executable. Now that I’ve sorted that out, it launches without issues! Still trying to figure out how to get my mods working though—hope that’s not too tricky.

Hey! Yeah, I’ve got it running too, but I’m not sure how the rules are regarding piracy here, so let’s just say “getting it to run” is key since you’ve already bought it. I used a repack version and installed it through Lutris by just choosing “install exe” instead of using a Lutris installer. Had no problems at all with that method!
Is your Lutris setup correct? Are you using Proton GE, plain Wine, or Valve Proton? Also, check if you’re using the Flatpak version or the one from the package manager. I had real trouble with the Flatpak version… I feel like it wasn’t using the right wineprefix. Make sure Lutris isn’t set to an incompatible version for Sims 3. You definitely need Proton GE for it to work properly! I added the installer as a non-Steam game and then switched it to the launcher exe in the game properties after installation. It simplifies the process a lot!
Thanks for the tips! It was mostly my mistake, mixed things up with EA stuff. Now that I’ve pointed Lutris to the right exe, it’s working fine! Just need to sort out my mods now.
