I spoke with the growling statue and it has stolen a heart container from me. I went back to the woman who gave me the quest and it is marked as completed now but I never got the heart container back. What should i do?

You need to go back and speak with the statue again. It wont take another container from you if you speak with it again. This statue is just used as a way for you to get rid of a heart and get it back as stamina, if you ever wanted to do this. It is similar to the statue you pray to to increase health and stamina. As soon as you speak to it, it will give you back the heart container it stole or allow you take it back as stamina if you wish.
